Shakespeare: Macbeth (A Summary)

Battle smoke, blood in the mud, swords ringing, Macbeth the hero, the killer, crowned in steel — and then the witches, the shadows, the crooked voices hissing, king, king, king, planting poison in his brain.

Back home, Lady Macbeth whispering fire in his ear, eyes sharp as daggers, hands already reaching for crowns. Do it, do it, kill the king, take it now. And he does, God help him, he does — blood on the sheets, the crown heavy, silence heavier.

But the ghosts don’t stay quiet. Banquo’s eyes across the table, empty chair filled with his shadow, knocking in the dark, voices in the walls. Lady Macbeth scrubbing, scrubbing, blood that won’t wash, laughing, crying, sleepwalking through hell.

Macbeth rages, spirals, clutching at prophecies like straws in a flood — none of woman born shall harm you, the witches sang, and he believes, he believes, drunk on lies, deaf to the truth.

Army at the gates, Birnam Wood moving, drums pounding like judgment, and at last Macduff — not born, ripped, torn into the world, blade in hand, fury in his voice.

Steel, scream, silence. The crown falls. The tyrant bleeds. The witches laugh somewhere far away.
