Workin’ On A Dream - Bruce Springsteen (album review)

Working On A Dream album review

Here's my take on each song:

1. Outlaw Pete. Could've been cool. As it is it's too long and overblown. 2 stars (out of 5).

2. My Lucky Day. Love this song. One of my favorites. Rocks good! 5 stars.

3. Title track. No sir. I don't like it. Sounds like a jingle for a car commercial. 1 star.

4. Queen of the Supermarket. Oh no! Bad lyrics with decent music. Change the Lyrics and it could be saved. 1 star.

5. What Love Can Do. Good song. Nice chugging rocker. 4 stars.

6. This Life. Good song. 4.5 stars.

7. Good eye. Has potential. Not quite realized. Bullet mic for the whole song? Maybe 1st verse only. Like to see ZZ Top do this song. 3.5 stars.

8. Tomorrow Never knows. It's fine. 3 stars.

9. Life Itself. I do like it. Kinda over produced though. 3.5 stars.

10. Kingdom of days. Nice song. Bruce sings very well here. Sort of feels like girls in their summer clothes. 4.5 stars.

11. Surprise, surprise. This often maligned song is an ok little song. I really see nothing wrong with it. Other than it seems like fluff. But it isn't bad.  Seriously sounds like a Monkees outtake. 3.5 stars.

12. Last Carnival. Nice enough song but geez it is so depressing. It's about Danny. And it's sad. 2 stars. Maybe release this as a B-side or stand alone single.

13. The wrestler. Nice acoustic song. Strong. I often think of washed up old Mickey Roarke when I hear it. Other than that it's a great song. 5 stars.

14. Night with the Jersey Devil. Good enough for an outtake. It's Halloween fluff. 3 stars.
