10 mile hike!!!

I want to document an incident which occurred to me a few weeks ago. It was Saturday, January 23rd, 2016, and I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and my time off from work (winter break) to go hiking at a place I'd never been in my life. The place was Government Canyon State Park here in San Antonio. I had read and heard about Government Canyon for a while now and had always wanted to check it out.

When I arrived I was surprised at how long I had to wait in line to pay at the gate. $6 was the cost. Eventually I paid and got in. Once I drove and parked, I got out excitedly heading to the first trail I could find. Eventually I found a main trail heading up into the woods there.

Here is a map of the place... I found this map below that highlights the route I actually took. It's highlighted in blue here. Geez, I walked and walked and walked and walked.

I had expected to hike MAYBE 3 miles. I ended up hiking 10 miles. 10 frikkin' miles!

Needless to say I was "all in" by the time it was over. My feet were sore, my hips were sore, my brain was addled. I was surprised (pleasantly) at how little it actually hurt me. The next day I was good to go. None the worse for wear.

The trails were very rocky and difficult to traverse in some areas. It is not a hike for the faint of heart. All in all, I had fun, but I NEVER intended to endure a mini-Bataan-death-march... Cheers!
