1 = bad
- Two Brothers BBQ (5) - top notch BBQ in a good atmospheric setting. Good bark on tender succulent brisket. Some of the best I’ve ever had. There’s a stage but I’ve never seen a live band there. Great sauces! Kids play area available.
- Black’s BBQ (5) - Everything is good here. Delicious brisket and sausage. Good sides. Good desserts (pecan cobbler). Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. Live music options. Go there and eat! Kind of pricey.
- Cooper’s BBQ (5) - Yummy gourmet brisket and delectable sausage awaits you here. Plenty of parking too. Great pecan cobbler! This is a great BBQ place!!
- The Smoke House (Rigsby) (5) - Another excellent BBQ shack. All the BBQ fare you would want. All delicious!! Solid gourmet BBQ.
- Smoke Shack (Broadway) (4.5) - Somewhat inconsistent, but the brisket is usually very good. I used to like it better when it was a food truck. But it is very good. Iffy parking and the inside is not so inviting. But the meat is very good!
- Smokin’ Joe’s of Tx (Weidner) (4) - Above average BBQ shack. The dining area is limited. Food is very good though!!
- Old Smokehouse (Fred Rd) (4) - Slightly more than decent BBQ dive on Fredericksburg road. Been there a while. Can be inconsistent. When “on” the meat is great!!
- Ed’s Smokin’ Q (5) - Excellent barbecue in a small east side hole in the wall place... like a converted drive-in.
- BBQ Station (4.5) - This place is not quite at gourmet level. It’s somewhat inconsistent. When they are on, there’s no better brisket. They have good beans/sides. There’s complementary beans For all dine in customers. The beans are pretty spicy. Has a decent atmosphere with good parking. Overall it’s usually a fun experience to eat here. Kids playground available.
- Augie’s barbed wire grill (4.5)- Nice barbecue joint by Brackenridge Park. They have really good barbecue & good side food. Definitely a cut above most! Live music options.
- Kings Highway Brew & Cue (5) - Amazing bark! This is a very good barbecue spot. It was moist and flavorful. The restaurant itself leaves a little to be desired. It’s basically a house. There is limited space and almost no parking. Take it to go!
- Rusty Bucket (4.5) - Surprisingly good ‘cue from this little joint on Cupples Road. It’s quaint with just enough of a rustic feel.
- Blanco BBQ (4) - Plenty of space and a decent atmosphere. The barbecue is good. Slightly above average. The sausage was yummy. Overall it’s a good restaurant to go to for a night out at a barbecue place. Live music? Sometimes. Small playground available.
- Big Bib BBQ (4) - Good but not great barbecue. The restaurant itself is nice. Some of the staff was not very friendly. Overall it’s a nice place to eat if you want some basic barbecue. Had various yummy sauces available.
- 2M Smokehouse (5) - Excellent bark & tender meat. Some of the best barbecue I’ve ever eaten. It’s a small rustic place with limited hours. But well worth the wait! So far this is the best I’ve had.
- Rudy’s (4) - It’s pretty good. Sometimes better than other times. It’s a cut above Bill Miller’s. Good cream corn. Nothing earth-shattering but it is good.
- Bar-B-Cutie (4.5) - this is a nice rustic little restaurant that serves really good barbecue. And has plenty of parking and plenty of space. Brisket was really really good!! A bit pricey. Really good variety of BBQ sauces.
- DeeWillie’s BBQ (O’Connor) (4.5) - nice atmosphere and really good BBQ. Good sides and dessert as well. Live music options.
- Texas Pride BBQ (Adkins) (4.5) - Good barbecue. Excellent flavor. The side food leaves a little to be desired. The atmosphere is really good. Has the feeling of a real Texas roadhouse. Live music options. Playground available.
- Crossroads BBQ (3) - Small intimate place near Wonderland mall. Has potential. Live music options. Has since changed owners and name. [update: the place is something else now]
- Alamo BBQ company (4.5) - An off-shoot of 2 Brothers BBQ. Good way-above-average BBQ. Almost NO parking available. Service was a little lacking. Great sauces!! Occasional live music. Playground available.
- Harmon’s BBQ (4) - Good food!!! Out in Cibolo. Excellent BBQ. Fairly quaint location with live music options.
- BBQ Life By Chris (5) - Excellent BBQ from the guy who is/was pit master at Ed’s Smokin’ Q. Went back recently and the place had run down. Looked abandoned. ☹️
- Bill Miller’s (3) - Very average BBQ. A true BTN (Better than nothing) option. The worst BBQ sauce ever. However their fried chicken is some of the best in San Antonio. Excellent tea and Pecan pie as well. The brownies are yummy too.
- B&D ice house - (4.5) Another BBQ joint run by the folks at 2 brothers BBQ. Like the title says it’s literally an “ice house”. It’s not even a restaurant. It’s basically little hipster bar that serves BBQ. There’s limited places to sit inside. Out in the courtyard you can sit at a picnic table. As for the barbecue it’s delicious brisket and good sausage. So it’s good all-around. It seems like a cool place to hang out, drink, and eat. Parking is a bit of a challenge.
- Brickyard barbecue - (5) Excellent small barbecue place in the medical center. The barbecue was delicious the sausage was delicious. The barbecue sauce was great! A little pricey and I haven’t had a side yet. The owner and the pitmaster were extremely friendly and very personable. Ample parking and they are expanding! Overall an excellent place to eat.
- Augie’s Alamo City BBQ - (4.5) Nice big restaurant on Broadway. An offshoot of Augie’s barbed-wire grill. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was also excellent. Plenty of room. There’s a party room. All the food was laid out fresh and ready to go. The brisket was smoky and delicious the sausage was great! All in all an excellent barbecue dining experience. Took a half point off cuz of the prices which are a bit steep.
- South BBQ & kitchen (Mission road) - (4.5) BBQ was delicious and fresh! Good sides too! Highly recommended!!
- B Daddies BBQ (Helotes) - (5.0) This place is clean and quaint in the hill country, with excellent BBQ and sides. The brisket was great! Everything is quality and just right!
- Choke Canyon BBQ (4.5) This quaint little barbecue restaurant on Blanco Road outside Loop 1604 is a great dining experience. They have a clean comfortable restaurant with plenty of amenities. Including complementary barbecue beans for dine-in customers. Everything was accessible. The barbecue was delicious. All the side orders were excellent! Overall a great barbecue dining experience.
- Southside BBQ - (4.5) This place had a decent rustic ambiance. That said, the food was good. Good tasty brisket with good bark, good sausage, rice and beans were also good! All in all a good dining experience!
- Old 300 BBQ - (4.5) This place is in Blanco Texas. It is very good. However, to be honest, it is not the best I’ve ever had. No offense. The brisket was good and flavorful but not too much bark. And it was not hot. (This seems to happen a lot at many BBQ places) The sides were very good. The sausage was good, but not great. Stuff might have tasted better if piping hot. (?) Good beans, good cream corn.. there are deserts available. Ambiance was very good. Overall, though it didn’t knock my hat in the creek, it was a fine dining experience!
- Pop’s BBQ - (5) Excellent brisket, good sausage, and phenomenal banana pudding (free portion with every order). Out in the middle of nowhere in the New Braunfels area. It’s basically a food truck with a few tables outside. Truth is, the rustic ambience adds to the charm. You’re eating some amazing Texas barbecue in the country! Also the tea was phenomenal! All in all an extremely wonderful experience. Some of the best I ever had!
